ISRO Unified Launch Vehicle Update:

Here is a table that lists possible configurations of ISRO's under development Unified Launch Vehicle. ULV has been envisaged as having a common standard core stage comprising of a semi-cryogenic stage (SC160) and a cryogenic stage (C25). Solid strapons/boosters with variable propellant loading (S12, S60, S138, S200) would be added to the launch vehicle to achieve a particular payload range. By having a standard core stage design will help in further cutting down the launch cost.

  1. Hey can you answer a couple of questions i have.

    1. Do you know if the third launch pad is ready?

    2. According to ISRO's annual report 2013-2013 a second VAB is planned for SLP, can you provide any info about this?

    3. Do you know if ISRO has any plans to build a rocket that can lift more than 20T to LEO

      1. Do you know if the third launch pad is ready?

      Ans: Not ready. Preliminary project report was submitted in 2012 and the goal is to finish work on TLP by 2017.

      2. According to ISRO's annual report 2013-2013 a second VAB is planned for SLP, can you provide any info about this?

      Ans: The work on the SVAB has been started. It has been sized keeping in mind GSLV2, LVM3 and ULV.

      Do you know if ISRO has any plans to build a rocket that can lift more than 20T to LEO

      Ans: None that I know of. As of now, ISRO's hands are full with semicryo (2000kn), cryo (200kn) engines, ABP, LVM3 and RLV-TD

    1.)Will SCE-2000 have 2 preburners with staged combustion cycle.When will the ground test will happen.?

    2.)Any date for LEX and SPEX tests.?

    1.)Will SCE-2000 have 2 preburners with staged combustion cycle.When will the ground test will happen.?

    SCE-200 design is based on the single element preburner injector. Not any time soon, as they are doing subsystem tests and developing required test facilities.

    2.)Any date for LEX and SPEX tests.?

    Again, not any time soon. ISRO is planning for 3 HEX missions (HEX01-03). They are targeting HEX01,02 before 2016 and work on HEX03 will start around 2014-2015.

    For LEX, they need to develop a landing strip and the target is to develop it by 2017.

    SPEX not possible in this decade, as ISRO first has to test and qualify the ATV vehicle powered by duel mode ramjet-scramjet. Once they are successful with ATV project, they will develop a 1 ton engine for the RLV-TD.

    but i have a few question though

    1) what is the status of the semi cryogenic engine? when will it be tested ? when will it be ready? will it be used in 2017 launch of gsat 19e using gslv mk 3?

    2) is isro planing or developing any SC engine other than SC160 ? maybe a more powerful one or more improved design version or something ?
